Phoenix is our beloved pony who arrived with a stubborn side. Our first impression of our sassy pony was her refusing to come off the trailer and spending the night on board. Thankfully since then Phoenix has proved her worth and is one of our most reliable horses for our lesson program. Phoenix, also sometimes called P, has a unique white marking under her mane that resembles a Phoenix bird which is how she received her full name. Phoenix was born in 2012 and stands just under 13 hands
Chance
Chance has been part of our herd the longest. He is over 20 years-old, but a farm favorite! Chance is an arab-morgan cross. Chance received his name because he was given a second chance at life when he was rescued and restored to health at a young age. Our seasoned gelding is especially fond of children and very aware of the precious cargo he carries on his back. However Chance still enjoys jumping and cantering when given the “chance”. This guy can do it all! Chance is a dapple gray and stands just over 14 hands.
Red
Red is a stocky quarter horse mare getting her name from her beautiful chestnut color. Although her demeanor often implies she is annoyed at the world, we have grown to become quite fond of her and we believe she feels the same way about us despite her marish mannerisms. Red is actually owned by someone else who generously allows us to use her as part of our lesson and trail program. Red is a trustworthy steed to ride on our trails. She is sure footed and never bothers to take a second glance at anything slightly suspicious. She was born in 2010 and is 14.2 hands.
Raven
Raven has been part of the farm for most of her life. She is our only gaited horse and a favorite to ride on the trails. Riding Raven is like driving a cadillac! God created her mighty and strong, but with a sweet and gentle spirit. Raven's size enables her to carry full-grown men, but her calm personality also makes her a trustworthy choice for both beginner and young riders. Raven’s long, thick mane and tail make her an absolutely stunning sight to behold. She stands at 15.1 hands and was born in May 2009.
Paisley
Paisley was born in May 2017 and raised from birth by the Brewers. Paisley’s birth was completely unexpected as she was discovered in the pasture by their grandchildren just hours after her birth. What an unexpected blessing she has been! Paisley is an arab-quarter horse cross. She has one blue and one brown eye making her a gorgeous sight with her stunning white blaze. Paisley is the youngest horse of our herd. She is inquisitive and eager to learn, making her a delight to ride. She currently requires more experienced riders as she is newer to our lesson program, but we have high hopes for her future! We are confident of her athletic ability and intelligence that she will soon be a staple part of our lesson program.
Finn
Finn, nicknamed Huck, is our smallest addition to the farm, but he makes up for his size in character. Whether it be finding him standing with his feed bowl in his mouth, escaping from his paddock, or just another crazy hair day Finn provides the farm with much entertainment. He also makes up for his size with his volume! He also loves to jump. Our brown and white paint gelding is also marked by beauty with his one brown and one blue eye.
Bella
Bella is a quarter horse cross. She is mostly used for our trail rides which she thoroughly enjoys! Bella is all whoa and no go making her a safe and reliable ride for any cautious or new riders. You could shoot a gun off this horse’s back and she would never blink an eye. We joke that Bella is part mule. She can have quite the stubborn side when trying to get her to go any faster than what she deems necessary… unless of course there is food involved. Bella loves to eat! At dinner time she comes running!
Blaze
Blaze, named for the facial marking down the center of her head, is one of the farm’s newest additions. She is another stocky quarter horse mare with a remarkable palomino coat. Blaze is often found grazing next to Chance. We wonder if she adores him just because he is our only other light-colored horse. Blaze excels at western riding. If you want to be a cowboy or cowgirl, Blaze is your ride! She was born in 2005, but still has plenty of speed and spunk if you want or she can be your western pleasure dream. Blaze is built to carry a lot of weight despite only standing at 15 hands.
Doc
Doc was rescued in 2021 and made the long journey from Texas. We believe he was around the age of 15 or 16 at the time. We do not know his full story, but at some point he suffered some sort of traumatic experience. SInce coming to Second Wind Farm Doc has completely recovered physically and has also learned to trust again. He is becoming less and less fearful of unfamiliar surroundings and surprises. Doc is 16 hands and moves with ease and grace. He is beautiful to watch play and run through the fields.
